  1. Bro would be good if the Sikhs could help in the process of recovery by starting an institution for Sikhs that can provide samples of wills which can be used to write their wills. Samples of applying for probates without going thru lawyers would also be most welcome.

Regarding your suggestion the only professionals who can assist would be those with legal expertise. The President of MALAYSIA GURDWARA COUNCIL is a a lawer [Sr. Jagir Singh Ji] It may be appropriate for MGC to expand its scope of functions to include assisting families of Sikhs who have departed this world. MGC may establish a PANEL OF LAWYERS WHO WOULD BE WILLING TO PROVIDE THEIR EXPERTISE AS A SERVICE [SEWA] to the families of the departed souls. They can provide their services either FREE or charge a NOMINAL FEE.
This is in line with the various medical camps conducted by Sikh Doctors/medical professionals where the physical health is examined and advise given. However this is done on an irregular basis. May be the medical profession can also establish a PANEL OF DOCTORS who can then also have regular camps at various locations on fixed dates on a rotational basis of locations as this will assist the needy without having to go to the hassle of busy traffic/transport problems.
    FOR CONSIDERATION.
My expertise is AUDIT OF FINANCIAL STATEMENTS/ACCOUNTS and ESPECIALLY ON ASPECTS/COMPONENTS OF CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS. I provide public and in-house training to companies and others for a fee.
IN CASE OF GURDWARAS AND SIKH NGOs THEY CAN AVAIL OF MY KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE FREE OF CHARGES. My article on TRUST FUNDS OF GURDWARAS/NGOs was PUBLISHED IN ASIA SAMACHAR in APRIL 2016. Anyone interested is welcome to request for it via e-mail: gursharan38@gmail.com or

  2. Fully agree with u bro. It can take years to recover monies from authorities, banks, etc. Even with a will one requires a probate from the high court fore the process of claims can take effect. Bro would be good if the Sikhs could help in the process of recovery by starting an institution for Sikhs that can provide samples of wills which can be used to write their wills. Samples of applying for probates without going thru lawyers would also be most welcome.

  3. My condolences to the family.
However this is forwarded for information of family members [and others as all will be affected sooner or later and thus should be aware and be prepared to avoid problems and hardships]. It is a common perception that most do not prepare for their after departure situations and also keep financial matters/information confidential even from their closest family members including parents/siblings/spouses/children/etc.
Many deceased may have monies in EPF, CoOperatives, etc and benefits available from SOCSO for some and if the person was a member of any association he/she may also be eligible for some benefits besides having credit balances.
Relatives of Government pensioners are also entitled to RM3K grant from the Pensions Department and this does not need any receipts of expenditure.
Further I recently came to understand that next of kin [spouse-child-parents] of the departed who were EPF contributors, EPF gives RM2,500.00 which is credited to the account of the deceased member [subject to being below 55 years of age]. The total balance can then be withdrawn by the Registered Nominee or other entitled beneficiary. Eligible only if he was working at any time and has an EPF Account.
Suggest any family member go through the old documents to confirm as not many tell their parents, spouses, siblings or children of what they have or where they have and this also applies to other family members including spouses and children and siblings.
Sikh/Punjabi men/women commonly participate in ‘Koots’ where there might be some undrawn funds.
Finally not many believe in making wills as some consider it bad omen nor make nominations in EPF or others.
I realise that this may not be the right time to say all this but it is important as otherwise the money if any, will end up with their transfer to UNCLAIMED MONEYS REGISTRAR from where it is very cumbersome to collect. Apologies if misunderstood.
ALL GURDWARAS-MANDIRS-SOCIETIES-NGOs-INDIVIDUALS SHOULD PROVIDE SUCH ADVICE AS AND WHEN NECESSARY WHO MAY BE AFFECTED INCLUDING THOSE STILL LIVING TO PREVENT RECOVERY PROBLEMS.
NEED FOR MINDSET CHANGE AND ALL SHOULD MAKE WILLS REGARDLESS OF AGE AND UPDATE NOMINATIONS WHERE APPLICABLE
MAY HER SOUL BE WITH WAHE GURU JI
