Melbourne Sikhs debut in Australia Day parade

Melbourne-based Sikhs took part for the first time in the Australia Day parade today (26 Jan 2015).

Sikhs were represented by Sikh Volunteers Australia and Sikh Interfaith Council of Victoria.

The Sikh turbans made them look different from others, and they received encouraging remarks., overwhelming applause and were very well received by the onlookers, who cheered and waved flags at them, according to a report at SinghStation.net.

Among those who took part were Jusbir Singh, a Malaysian-born Sikh who has now moved to Australia. His family went along for the parade.
