They came from the land of rugby giants. But it was India’s young women who stole the thunder!
In a stunning display of grit and determination, India’s Under-20 women’s rugby sevens team crushed a New Zealand U20 Maori invitational side 17-0 at Rajgir on October 27. They were up 12-0 at half time before delivering the knockout blow with a late try, completing a remarkable shutout.
For a nation still finding its feet in international rugby, the victory was a statement of intent.
“It was a once in a lifetime experience,” said Indian player Akshaya NS.
The encounter was part of a series celebrating 100 years of India-New Zealand sporting ties.
