A Sikh lady banker is making waves in the digital banking space in the Southeast Asia region.

Jagjit Kaur is one of the key people in leading the push for digital banking at a Malaysia-based bank.

The work by Jagjit and her team at Hong Leong Bank Berhad (HLBB) was recently recognised by a Hong Kong-based magazine The Asset.

Hong Leong Islamic Bank Berhad, a subsidiary of HLBB, recently won The Asset Triple A Islamic Finance Awards 2015 for Best Bank for Digital Innovation.

Jagjit, the HLIB General Manager for Digital Innovation and Transactional Banking (Wholesale), represented the Islamic banking subsidiary at rhe awards ceremony.

In recent times, Hong Leong Islamic Bank Berhad (HLIBB) has actively increased its focus towards digital banking and this award recognises its overall strategy in the digitization of banking operations, according to a statement from the bank.

eXPRE$$ REMIT is one such innovative solution which had recently been introduced. This service provides hassle-free cash remittance from Malaysia to Indonesia, and the first in the country to utilise Self Service Terminals for conversion and remittance, the statement added.

“Naturally we view this as the prelude to similar offerings by HLISB to other South East Asian countries in the near future,” says Jagjit in the same statement.

Earlier in the year, the statement said HLISB had unveiled a new branch concept in high pedestrian traffic areas which utilises state-of-the-art infrastructure and IT systems such as Touch Screen PCs, iPads and real-time video conferencing facilities as well as straight-through processing capabilities, to further strengthen its digital banking platform.
