A seminar on Sikhi and Sikh-related matters, organised by a number of Sikhs organisations, will be held in Ipoh on Saturday (5 Nov 2016).
The evening seminar will discuss the centrality of Guru Granth Sahib in the Sikh discourse and the state of unity within the community.
The seminar, entitled ‘Leadership of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji’, will be held at the Wadda Gurdwara Sahib Ipoh (WGSI) hall from 2pm to 6pm.
“The seminar will help us reassess our short term and long term goals as a community. We need to close ranks for a brighter future, to be able to face the challenges facing us today,” Dr Bhajan Singh, an Ipoh-based medical practitioner and active Sikh volunteer, tells Asia Samachar. “I hope our Sikh brothers and sisters will take advantage of this opportunity to discuss matters of importance to us.”
Jaspal Singh, a former senior journalist and also former secretary of Malaysian Gurdwaras Council (MGC), hopes that those who attend the seminar will be able to form good network that will come handy in the move to establish Gurmat parchaar in Ipoh as well as Perak.
“The challenges we are facing today is the slow erosion of absolute faith in the Gurbani. When I say Gurbani I mean Guru Granth Sahibji. There is no Gurbani without Guru Granth Sahib Ji,” he said.
The first presenter, senior civil servant and lay-preacher Karminder Singh Dhillon, will talk on “Understanding Shabad as Our Guru”.
Manjeet Singh, a Kuala Lumpur-based lawyer who conducts regular Gurbani classes, will then speak on “Being Sanmukh to Our Guru”.
Educationist and author Gurcharan Singh will speak on “Leadership and Communication: Towards Unity”.
The Ipoh seminar is part of the Leadership of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji conference which took place in Petaling Jaya last month. One of its sideline programme was ‘Women In Sikhi: Beyond Gender’ conference.
The programme is organised by the Coalition of Malaysian Sikh Organisations (CMSO) with the active participation of SNSM, KDM, MGC, SWAN, SSSJMMSM, GNGGSF, SWSM, InSPiRE, GKDM, PPM, SSA, GSPJ, WGS Ipoh. Its media partners are Asia Samachar, Sikhi Lehar Malaysia and Sikhi Vichaar Forum.
