250 join Sikh community Merdeka programme in Kuala Lumpur

Some 250 people, including gurdwara leaders and representatives from across the Klang Valley, took part in a Semarak Kemerdekaan Malaysia programme at Tat Khalsa Diwan in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday (Aug 30).

The programme was organised through between Akademi Kenegaraan Malaysia (AKM) Kuala Lumpur and the Malaysian Gurdwara Council (MGC), bringing the Sikh community together in the spirit of Merdeka, patriotism and national unity.

AKM, an agency under the Prime Minister’s Department, is the central coordinating body for statecraft, patriotism and leadership training in Malaysia.

Among those present were AKM director-general Dr Roslan Hussin, AKM Federal Territories director Faizal Iqram Ibeni Yanin and MGC president Jagir Singh.Also attending was SAC Ravindar Singh of the Kuala Lumpur police, alongside presidents and representatives of gurdwaras in the Klang Valley.

Held from 2pm to 4.30pm, the gathering reflected the Sikh community’s participation in Malaysia’s independence celebrations and its continuing role in the wider national fabric.

The AKM-MGC collaboration also provided an opportunity to strengthen engagement between a national institution and the gurdwara community while reinforcing the values of unity, patriotism and shared responsibility among Malaysians.
