  1. The family of late Sdr Suaran Singh is not offended by the article. Its informative.Thank you Kuldeep for highlighting his sporting achievement. He also participated in the Seap Games in Rangoon 1961 and had a podium finish in the discus throw. He was the Sports Personality(Tokoh Sukan) of Penang 1986.He was also the founding President of the Veterans Athletic Assoc of Penang and a IAAF certified official and officiated at the Commonweslth Games 1998.

  2. Thank you for your views and support.

The best organization to share the information would be the MALAYSIAN GURDWARA COUNCIL-SWAN-SIKH WELFARE SOCIETIES-SIKH NAUJAWAN SABHA MALAYSIA-MANAGEMENT COMMITTEES OF GURDWARAS-NGOs including those of other communities. They should not only place the information on their NOTICE BOARDS and websites if they have and announcements whenever there is a Bhog for the dearly departed.
Sadly I find little if any response from anyone and most may be too interested in their own pet projects and this may not provide them any opportunity for enhancement of their positions of self-enrichment.

  3. Mr Gursharan Singh, you said apologies if misunderstood. No no. No apologies need be given. I know it is important that this message be given. Perhaps asiasamachar.com can carry this message in a Special article. As a family friend, I don’t think the late Mr Suaran Singh’s family will be offended. Mr Suaran Singh gave a lot of his time for public service and will be proud of this public message.

  4. Mr Suaran Singh was an excellent athlete. He won a bronze medal at the then South East Asian Peninsular (SEAP) Games in 1965 in KL in the hammer event. It is now known as the South East Asian (SEA) Games.

  5. My condolences to the family.

This is forwarded for information of family members [and others as all will be affected sooner or later and thus should be aware and be prepared to avoid problems and hardships]. It is a common perception that most do not prepare for their after departure situations and also keep financial matters/information confidential even from their closest family members including parents/siblings/spouses/children/etc.
Many also fail to update their ‘nominee’ records with EPF-Insurance Policies-Investments-etc. resulting in the nominations becoming invalid. Further many may be overseas who have little or no knowledge or information about what the father-mother-children-siblings-others may have and where to get the respective documents.

Many deceased may have monies in EPF, Cooperatives, etc and benefits available from SOCSO for some and if the person was a member of any association he/she may also be eligible for some benefits besides having credit balances.
Relatives of Government pensioners are also entitled to RM3K grant from the Pensions Department and this does not need any receipts of expenditure.
Suggest any family member go through the old documents to confirm as not many tell their parents, spouses, siblings or children of what they have or where they have and this also applies to other family members including spouses and children and siblings.
Sikh/Punjabi men/women commonly participate in ‘Koots’ where there might be some undrawn funds.
Finally not many believe in making wills as some consider it bad omen nor make nominations in EPF or others.
I realise that this may not be the right time to say all this but it is important as otherwise the money if any, will end up with their transfer to UNCLAIMED MONEYS REGISTRAR from where it is very cumbersome to collect. Apologies if misunderstood.
ALL GURDWARAS-MANDIRS-SOCIETIES-NGOs-INDIVIDUALS SHOULD PROVIDE SUCH ADVICE AS AND WHEN NECESSARY WHO MAY BE AFFECTED INCLUDING THOSE STILL LIVING TO PREVENT RECOVERY PROBLEMS.
NEED FOR MINDSET CHANGE AND ALL SHOULD MAKE WILLS REGARDLESS OF AGE AND UPDATE NOMINATIONS WHERE APPLICABLE
MAY HIS SOUL BE WITH WAHE GURU JI
    Gur Fateh
