Selangor Sikh Association (SSA) received another RM50,000 funding from the Selangor state government for sports activities, bringing its total allocation received this year to RM80,000.
Member of Parliament for Puchong Gobind Singh Deo handed the cheque to SSA president Amarjeet Singh on Thursday.
“We organise interfaith sports and also take an annual contingent of about 100 sportsman and sportswoman to the Gurdwara Cup. The cost for contingent alone, including transport, lodging and allowance, can come up to RM70,000 to RM80,000,” he told Asia Samachar.
Amarjeet said he had requested the state government to set aside a RM100,000 allocation for sporting activities for the Sikh community.
The funding comes from the RM500,000 allocation earmarked by the Selangor state government for the Sikh community announced by the Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali last year.
The Selangor state is ruled by Selangor Pakatan Harapan with PKR’s Azmin as the chief. Gobind from the DAP is its legal bureau chairman.
