Selangor Sikh Association (SSA) received another RM50,000 funding from the Selangor state government for sports activities, bringing its total allocation received this year to RM80,000.

Member of Parliament for Puchong Gobind Singh Deo handed the cheque to SSA president Amarjeet Singh on Thursday.

“We organise interfaith sports and also take an annual contingent of about 100 sportsman and sportswoman to the Gurdwara Cup. The cost for contingent alone, including transport, lodging and allowance, can come up to RM70,000 to RM80,000,” he told Asia Samachar.

Amarjeet said he had requested the state government to set aside a RM100,000 allocation for sporting activities for the Sikh community.

The funding comes from the RM500,000 allocation earmarked by the Selangor state government for the Sikh community announced by the Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali last year.

The Selangor state is ruled by Selangor Pakatan Harapan with PKR’s Azmin as the chief. Gobind from the DAP is its legal bureau chairman.

  1. I look forward to TRANSPARENCY and ACCOUNTABILITY in the MANAGEMENT of this Grant.
This is important so as to avoid any wrong perception on usage of Grant funds as is being investigated by MACC on funds allocated to Sabah Departments to assist poor.
It is common a perception that TRUST FUNDS are SUSCIPTIBLE to EMBEZZELMENT and MISMANAGEMENT of TRUST FUNDS which may be due to weak internal controls and poor monitoring even when those involved may be highly qualified and titled and professionals.
I have been calling fot T & A of Trust Funds received from Federal and State Govts by Gurdwaras-NGOs-Societies-Charities’etc.
A comprehensive article on MGT OF TRUST FUNDS was published Asia Samachar in 2016.
