There was no way of avoiding Malaysian commercial crime buster Amar Singh in the last few weeks as the nation upped the ante in the investigations into Malaysia’s state-owned investment fund 1MDB.
It is a super high profile case at it involves former Prime Minister Najib Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor.
Commissioner Amar, the Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director, was the point person as the police made a number of raids last month.
At on the spot press conferences, he had to detail the number of bags and the amount of cash that was carted away – boxes and boxes of them.
ToonistBains, the resident cartoonist at Asia Samachar, produces a caricature of the Sikh top cop. Amar is the highest ranking Sikh officer in the Malaysian police force today, the highest ever scaled by a person of an Indian ethnicity.
Yesterday, Amar was again in the news when some newspapers splashed photos of him shaking hands with Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin who had called on the police top brass at Bukit Aman.
