The escalation of tension between India and Pakistan has led to the closure of the Amritsar and Chandigarh airport to civilian air traffic.

This means flights to the Punjab city on the Indian side of the border are likely to be cancelled or diverted.

“We have yet to receive any circulars from the airlines. But surely there will be cancellations,” a Kuala Lumpur based travel agent told Asia Samachar.

Similarly affected are the Leh, Jammu and Srinagar airports, according to Indian media reports.

Airlines from Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand have regular scheduled flights to Amritsar.
