Your response appreciated. Problem is that those who may be suitable according to your criteria they may either not be willing to serve or if stand for elections they get defeated as being elected is dependent on number of votes and not many attend or vote for them.
It is my perception that most Gurdwaras may have become more commercial minded where main objective could be to have ‘profits’ and less to serve needs of sanggat. Many Management Committees still appear to be reluctant to publish their accounts and thus be transparent which may imply that there could be suspected mismanagement of funds and facilities for personal glory and benefits for some. Thus leading to competitions for posts and in some cases to the extent that Police arrive.

  2. Gursharan Singh Ji, thanks for the comment.I welcome and appreciate your frankness.
My comment was a general comment directed to every Gurudwara election and not only this one.
I did not know there was an election going on until I read this article giving the results so it is impossible to remind them beforehand.
Professionals? So thats the only important criteria to get elected in a Gurudwara? I disagree. If they are not willing to follow the basic tenets of the Sikh religion then they have no business whatsoever running a Gurudwara. If that will drive ‘many’ away then so be it.It means their heart was never there in the first place that illegibility to hold positions in a Gurudwara caused them to sulk and run away.
Again, here we are talking about a place of worship and not a social club, which unfortunately many Gurudwaras have become today.
If my comment is insulting to some then so be it.As the Malays say,”Siapa makan cili dia rasa pedas”.

I cant sugar coat this issue which I believe has played a major role in downgrading the significance and importance of the Gurudwara in our Sikh youth of today. The people that run the Gurudwaras are half baked themselves, how are they going to teach or inspire anyone? It gets even worse when you have open smokers and heavy drinkers who are also moneylenders with connection to gangsters running Gurudwaras.Tell me,what will our youth that sees all this make of the situation?Of course then they will look for religious education and faith elsewhere.
Desi Granthis are unreliable and basically most don’t give a damn about the wellbeing of the local Malaysian sangat. Most of them are only worried about their salaries, their family back home and their land and properties. We cant expect them to guide our youth because they just don’t really care. This leaves the Gurudwara committees with a huge responsibility that many are incompetent to fulfill.
    Gurfateh.

  3. Sr. Sadhu Singh JI.
Your friendly reminder should have been before elections and not after.
Also not electing some may result in many professionals not being eligible and pushing many out of Gurdwaras and further drive away many.
Your comment may give the perception that those elected may fall in the categories you mentioned and this is uncalled for as many in sanggat or elected may not fall in the categores you listed. Thus I strongly disagree with your friendly reminder which may not be friendly but insulting.

  4. Stop electing monays, patits, sherabis, smokers, moneylenders, politicians, gangsters, whores and other social parasites into Gurudwara committees. A Gurudwara is not a social club. Just a friendly reminder.

  5. Congratulations and best wishes to the newly elected lineup for Shah Alam Gurdwara Committee and pray it succeeds in its mission to seva and to sanggat.
It has been my long time request and hope that there will be TRANSPARENCY and ACCOUNTABILITY in Gurdwaras FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT and this can be done by making public the AUDITED ACCOUNTS which can be published in the MALAYSIA SAMACHAR which may be among the best mode to reach the maximum.
Not to make public the accounts with the justification it is limited to members only may be perceived as not being TRANSPARENT and thus avoid ACCOUNTABILITY. It should be noted that donations/charrawa also comes from non-members who should also be kept kept informed.
No intention to doubt the integrity of the Management Committee Members and apologies if anyone were to misunderstand or take it personally. Apologies in advance.
