Sarjit Singh has been named among Singapore’s 12 inaugural Adult Education Fellows (AEF), receiving the highest professional recognition under the country’s new national Training and Adult Educator Professional Pathway (TAEPP).

The appointment was conferred at a ceremony on Oct 19, 2026, by Acting Minister for Manpower Jasmin Lau, who is also Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information. The recognition coincided with the national launch of the Skills-First: Framework for Action by the Institute for Adult Learning (IAL).

“I hope this milestone can inspire our younger generation to embrace lifelong learning and contribute meaningfully to society,” he told Asia Samachar.

Speaking at the launch, Sarjit described the fellowship as both an honour and a responsibility.

“I see this Fellowship not simply as recognition, but as a responsibility — to inspire learning that makes a meaningful difference to people, organisations and society.”

He emphasised that adult education extends beyond imparting knowledge to igniting curiosity, building confidence and translating learning into action.

Addressing the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI), Sarjit urged educators to empower people to automate what machines do best while strengthening uniquely human qualities such as judgement, creativity, courage and compassion.

In a LinkedIn posting, Lau welcomed the Skills-First initiative, which encourages employers to recognise workers’ capabilities and potential rather than relying solely on academic qualifications and previous job titles. She also congratulated the inaugural fellows for helping adult learners continue developing their capabilities.

For Sarjit, the underlying message is clear: lifelong learning unlocks human potential.

“Skills-First is not just about preparing people for the future of work. It is about unlocking the potential in every person — and empowering them to create that future,” he said.

Sarjit, a Singapore-based chartered accountant and corporate leader, has more than three decade of experience in finance, governance and business advisory. A former chief financial officer of AIA Singapore and Aviva Asia, he has also served as an adjunct associate professor at Nanyang Technological University and held senior leadership roles in the corporate sector.

He has trained more than 18,000 professionals and received the SkillsFuture Fellowship Award in 2019. Beyond his professional achievements, Sarjit is an active community leader who received Singapore’s Public Service Star (Bar) in 2021 for his contributions to public service. Among others, he had served as a Vice-President of the Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA).
