Fresh flight cancellations by Malaysia Airlines have reignited passenger frustration, with travellers pointing out that this is not the first time in recent weeks that services between Kuala Lumpur-Amritsar have been disrupted.

The latest incident involved a Malaysia Airlines flight scheduled to depart Kuala Lumpur for Amritsar at 5pm on Friday (Dec 19), reported Free Malaysia Today (FMT).

Cursory check by Asia Samachar showed that at least one flight departing from Amritsar was delayed for at least two-days last month. The passengers were provided accommodation at Amritsar’s Hyatt and the Le Meridien.

In the latest incident, a passenger, Gurmukh Singh, told Free Malaysia Today (FMT) that travellers were informed at the airport that the flight had been cancelled due to bad weather conditions in India. Passengers were subsequently accommodated at a hotel in Putrajaya for the night.

They were brought back to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Saturday for a rescheduled departure at 9pm. However, the flight was cancelled again, with the airline later citing a lack of available landing slots in Amritsar. The service was then rescheduled to depart at 9am on Sunday.

The passenger told FMT that the repeated cancellations left passengers — including families with young children and elderly travellers — stranded at the airport without accommodation following the second cancellation. He also questioned the airline’s explanation, noting that other international flights were landing in Amritsar during the same period.

In Gurmukh’s case, he told the media portal that he had effectively burned several days of annual leave spent at the airport instead of being in Panjab.
