IT hasn’t rained in Setia Alam, but with the way our weather behaves these days, you never quite know when the skies might split open without warning. And if they do — if the floodgates open and the world briefly goes to hell — I can think of far worse fates than being rescued by a team of burly, no-nonsense Sikhs who have made wading into chaos part of their routine.
Outside the United Sikhs Malaysia office, broad-shouldered, turbaned Mandeep Singh — the organisation’s vice-president — is already waiting, grinning as if floods, earthquakes or logistical nightmares are all in a day’s work. And for this crew, they usually are.

A quick look around tells me the space serves more than one purpose. Hospital beds, wheelchairs, commodes and portable oxygen concentrators line the room — the essentials needed to respond at a moment’s notice. A second warehouse in Rawang stores everything else.
It isn’t lavish, but it is purposeful; resources are channelled to where they matter most: the communities they serve.
