A youth from Panjab has shared a harrowing account of his ordeal in Malaysia after allegedly being duped by an immigration agent from his home state.
The experience was recounted on The Pendu Podcast, which featured Taranveer Singh, a Panjab native who was deported from Malaysia after entering the country illegally and living there for nearly two-and-a-half years.
Recounting his story, Taranveer said he had crossed into Malaysia from Thailand through irregular routes, bypassing official immigration channels.
During the conversation, Taranveer described how he was persuaded to take the so-called “donkey route” by an agent who promised an easier path abroad. He detailed the harsh realities he encountered in Malaysia, including difficult living conditions, unstable work arrangements, limited earnings, and constant fear of arrest due to his undocumented status.
The episode also highlights how fraudulent agents exploit the aspirations of young people desperate for overseas opportunities, often leaving them trapped in precarious situations far from home. Taranveer explained the circumstances that eventually led to his detention and deportation, offering a sobering account of life on the margins as an undocumented migrant.
The podcast stresses that the episode serves as a cautionary tale for those considering migration through illegal channels, particularly to Malaysia. It urges prospective migrants to verify information, avoid unlicensed agents, and understand the legal realities before attempting to go abroad, warning that the promise of a better future can quickly turn into a prolonged nightmare.
