Kampar will host a five-day kirtan programme from Jan 7 (Wed), one of the largest such programme outside of Kuala Lumpur.
The Dasmesh Pita Semagam will be held at Gurdwara Sahib Kampar, from Jan 7-11.
The programme include a medical check-up (2pm, Jan 10), kids tea party (3pm, Jan 10), gatka performance (4pm, Jan 10) and an amrit sanchaar (where Sikhs partake amrit) at 2pm on Jan 11.
“Its a religious extravaganza brought to the door steps of small towns and rural areas. It certainly is the biggest such event outside KL,” said Santokh Singh, the deputy president of Ipoh-based Khalsa Diwan Malaysia and a resident of Kampar, in a Facebook posting.
The kirtan semagam, which was held for the first time in January 2014, will see the presence of kathakar Bhai Jaswant Singh Parwana and kirtanis Bhai Manjeet Singh Glasglow, Bhai Sarabjit Singh Rangila, Bhai Lakhwinder Singh and Bhai Baldev Singh.
“We will house the kirtanis at individual homes of local residents,” said one of the volunteers involved in organising the event.
The event is jointly organised by Persatuan Pembangunan Insan Sikh Perak (PPIS), Gurdwara Sahib Kampar, Sikh Naujawan Sabha Kampar and Sikh Naujawan Sabha Malaysia.
