Fund raising teams from three gurdwaras at the Vaisakhi Grand Event at Kuala Lumpur, which ends tomorrow, need your support.

The donation flow has been slow. The collection till this evening has been much lower than the past few years.

“It’s a little quite this year.” Manjeet Singh, who chairs the Gurdwara Sahib Bayan Baru fund raising team, tells Asia Samachar. “We’ve been here for the last three year now.”

The Penang-based gurdwara has a booth at the International Youth Centre, Cheras, where the Vaisakhi event organised by the Sikh Naujawan Sabha Malaysia is going on in full swing.

The two other teams raising funds are from Gurdwara Sahib Butterworth, another Penang-based gurdwara, and Gurdwara Sahib Subang, Selangor.

Kulwant Kaur from the Subang team concurs. “Response has been rather slow this year,” she says.

The information technology staffer of a multinational corporation says her team has assigned two people to man the booth at one time.

“Perhaps we don’t have enough hands to canvass for donations at this function,” she said.

The Butterworth gurdwara, whose building piling started on September 2014, is located at the Seberang Jaya and is estimated to cost RM6 million.

The Bayan Baru gurdwara is coming up amongt the Hi-Tech MNCs and close to the Penang International Airport.

The four storey building is estimated to cost RM3.5 million.

The Subang gurdwara, estimated to cost RM3.5 million, is under construction on a 10,000 sg ft land in SS13, Subang Jaya. The land was granted by the Selangor state government.
