Today marks the 31th anniversary of the Operation Bluestar, the name given to the operation carried out by the Indian army on the Harmandir Sahib complex in Amritsar, Punjab. The attack from 1-6 June 1984 had left a deep scar on the Sikh psyche, one that cannot be easily erased.
We share a video that Ensaf, a US-based Sikh human right group, ran a year ago. The exclusive interview reveals how the Indian Army intentionally killed thousands of civilians and used excessive force during this assault, according to the introduction to the video.
Ensaaf is a nonprofit organisation working to end impunity and achieve justice for mass state crimes in India, with a focus on Punjab, by documenting abuses, bringing perpetrators to justice, and organising survivors.
