Satwant Singh: Negeri Sembilan Premier League 2017 soccer team manager

Satwant Singh has again been entrusted with the job of managing the Negeri Sembilan state soccer team competing in Malaysia’s Premier League.

Satwant’s appointment as the manager for the Negeri Sembilan Premier League 2017 team was announced by the Negeri Sembilan Mentri Besar Mohamad Hasan, who is also the president of the Negeri Sembilan Football Association.

Satwant, the only Sikh featuring amongst the top officials for Malaysian state teams, is also the Negeri Sembilan Sikh Union (NSSU) president.

Satwant has been NSFA since 2002 when made manager for the state Under-19 team and then manager for the Under 21 team between 2004-2009. In 2015, he was elevated as te asssitant manager for the Premier League team, and made manager in 2016. He was also manager for the NS Sukma team that emerged champions in 2004.

“We are gunning for the top two positions this year to get promption to 2018 Super League,” Satwant tells Asia Samachar.

Negeri Sembilan ended fourth last year. The top two teams will get to move to the Malaysian Super League.

This time around, they hope the arrival of the four new imports will change the team’s fortune.

The foreign players include Croatian import Simic Marko who was the top scorer in the Vietnam League and Lee Andrew Tuck from England who had played for Abahani Limited FC that won the Bangladesh League last year. The other two imports are Sukicastanheira Brunojunichi from Japan and Vidic Nemanja from Serbia.
