Preparations are underway for an Asean Sikh Seminar in Jakarta as an Indonesian gurdwara gets ready to celebrate its silver anniversary.

Gurdwara Yayasan Sosial Guru Nanak in Jakarta, built 25 years ago, is now undergoing building renovations that are expected to be completed before the Asean Sikh Seminar scheduled for Dec 1-3, 2017.

“With Waheguru’s kirpa this will be the first seminar to be ever held in Indonesia and we hope it will be a precursor to the revival of Sikhism in Indonesia,” according to a note from one of the organisers.

Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) is a 10-nation regional grouping that includes Indonesia, Malaysia, Singpaore, Thailand and the Phillipines.

“We are not used to organising such events, so we will seek help,” chief organiser Balwant Singh told Asia Samachar.

At the moment, he said they have received indication of participants coming from Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, New Zealand and India.
