Sarabjeet Kaur Hardip Singh from Singapore has been named as one of the most outstanding teachers of the year in Southeast Asia by a Thai foundation.

The Princess Maha Chakri Award Foundation has her, along with the other winners for the each of the nations in Southeast Asia.

They are Lim Soh Ngo from Negara Brunei Darussalam, Dy Sophorn from Cambodia, Encon Rahman from Indonesia, Kounvilay Khenkitisack from Laos, Hajah Saripah Binti Embong from Malaysia, U Than Tun from Myanmar, Dr Jesus C Incilada from the Philippines, Leopoldina Joana Guterres from Timor-Leste, Phan Thi Nu from Vietnam and Jirat Jamsawang from Thailand.

“They are honoured for their outstanding roles in life-changing learning and educational development,” Dr Krissanapong Kirtikara, president of the Princess Maha Chakri Award Foundation Committee, was quoted in a report by Thai newspaper The Nation.

The list of award-winning teachers was endorsed by the committee, chaired by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, during the annual general meeting. Each recipient will receive a medal, a certificate of honour, and a US$10,000 (Bt334,000) cash prize from the Princess in a prestigious award-presentation ceremony, which takes place on Oct 11 at Centara Central World, the report said.

The Princess Maha Chakri Award scheme was established in celebration of the auspicious 60th birthday of the Princess in 2015. The presentation of the awards is to honour the princess for her outstanding achievements in the fields of education and the development of people’s quality of life, especially for the disadvantaged. This year marks the second time that the awards are being presented to outstanding teachers, as they are granted every two years.
