“I wear my turban with pride, my crown jewel, and I show the world I’m proud to be a Sikh,” writes Harpreet Kaur Gill who submitted her son’s photo for the #ShiningTurban2019 competition.
The photo and the story emerged the top winner for the competition, winning the recently released iPhone 11. Congrats!
The second place went to Ranjit Kaur who submitted a photo collage of her son, winning her an airline ticket to Phu Quoc, Vietnam, courtesy of AirAsia.
“My Turban is a Gift of My Guru. A gift so dear that it took the lives of his whole family and the Sikhs who sacrificed themselves defending it,” she writes.
The third-place – winning an airline ticket to Can Tho, Vietnam, also courtesy of AirAsia – went to TheRealKeshminder.
He submitted a photo of him on a fashion runway, ‘walking proud’ with his batik turban. Batik is a traditional art and craft widely seen in Malaysia and Indonesia.
The competition, organised by media portal Asia Samachar, was held in conjunction with the Malaysia Day celebration in September. The event was supported by Malaysian Gurdwaras Council (MGC), Khalsa Diwan Malaysia (KDM), Malaysian Punjabi Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MPCCI), Sikh Naujawan Sabha Malaysia (SNSM) and SikhInside.
