Indian-American billionaire Vinod Khosla has acquired the Seattle Seahawks, fresh from the NFL franchise’s second Super Bowl triumph.
The Khosla family entered into a formal sale agreement with the Paul G. Allen Estate on July 11 for a league-record US$9.612 billion, ESPN reported.
“How often do you get to buy a franchise that just won the Super Bowl?” Khosla was quoted as saying this week at the NFL owners’ meeting in Atlanta, where he appeared alongside his co-owners, wife Neeru and son Neal Khosla.
“We are incredibly lucky and humbled by this gift, I would say, from the Allen trust.”
Khosla, 71, is a co-founder of Sun Microsystems and the founder of venture capital firm Khosla Ventures. He built his fortune through investments in sectors including networking, software and alternative energy technologies.
Born in 1955 into a Punjabi Indian family in Pune, Maharashtra, Khosla spent part of his early life in New Delhi, where his father served as an officer in the Indian Army.
In 2026, Khosla was ranked No. 10 on the Forbes 250 list of America’s Greatest Innovators. The same year, he appeared on the cover of Forbes as part of the magazine’s “The Epic Battle for AI’s Future” issue, alongside fellow venture capitalists Marc Andreessen and Reid Hoffman.
In September 2024, Khosla was also named to Time magazine’s TIME100 AI list of the 100 most influential people in artificial intelligence and featured on the issue’s cover.
