A young barrister who was thrown out of her home as a teenager and left homeless, has won a prestigious legal award, becoming the first Sikh woman to win Young Pro-Bono Barrister of the Year, reports the BBC.
After coming to Greenford, west London, from Leicester at the age of 17, Tinessa Kaur, now 32, used her Sikh support network to get off the streets and into the classroom.
Her faith’s key teaching of selfless service inspired her to give up her free time to offer her services as a pupil barrister to help underserved communities, the report added.
