A 21-year-old man who suffered severe head and scalp injuries in a freak go-kart accident in Puchong is conscious and recovering after undergoing emergency surgery.

His mother, Charanjeet Kaur, told Asia Samachar that her son had been badly injured in the July 11 incident but was now showing signs of recovery.

Maanroshan Singh, who turned 21 last week, had recently returned to Malaysia after completing a six-month voluntary work stint in Germany. He was due to return there in August to pursue a technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programme.

“He had just returned recently. He went out with friends to catch up with them,” said Charanjeet, a producer at Star Media Group, which publishes The Star newspaper. “He is still in a state of shock.”

According to a report by Scoop, the accident occurred at about 2.37am at a popular go-kart circuit in Puchong, where Maanroshan was taking part in a recreational session with 12 other youths.

Witnesses cited by Scoop alleged that his long hair had not been secured and became caught in one of the kart’s wheels, causing him to suffer serious head and scalp injuries. They also claimed that his helmet came off during the incident.

Two witnesses said they saw him standing after the crash with his head bleeding heavily. They further alleged that the race was not immediately stopped and that other go-karts continued moving while he remained on the track.

Police reports lodged by Maanroshan’s father and another witness reportedly stated that he was instructed to walk to an open garage area and sit on a chair despite the severity of his injuries, the media portal reported.

Scoop also reported allegations that no immediate professional medical assistance was provided. His friends, including a medical student, reportedly administered first aid using bandages supplied by circuit staff.

Concerns were also raised over the ambulance response. Witnesses alleged that nearly 20 minutes passed without an ambulance arriving before one of them called the 999 emergency hotline directly.

Maanroshan was eventually taken to Hospital Serdang at about 3am in a vehicle belonging to the circuit management. He was later transferred to Hospital Putrajaya, where he underwent emergency surgery under specialist supervision.

The incident has raised questions over safety procedures, staff preparedness and emergency medical arrangements at recreational motorsport facilities.
