Sikh Naujawan Sabha Malaysia (SNSM) has relaunched its Daswandh Scheme, inviting Sikhs across Malaysia to make a recurring contribution of at least RM1 a month towards programmes supporting the development and strengthening of Sikhi.
Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh, who was visiting Malaysia recently, became the first contributor to the relaunched initiative, giving RM1.
Daswandh — literally referring to a tenth — is the Sikh practice of setting aside a portion of one’s earnings or resources for the Guru and the wider community. The Sikh Rehat Maryada states that a Sikh should tender one-tenth of his or her earnings to the Guru.
SNSM is encouraging contributors to establish recurring monthly bank transfers to Pertubuhan Belia Sikh Malaysia’s Maybank account, using “SNSM Daswandh Scheme” as the payment reference. The organisation said contributors may determine their own monthly amount and preferred starting and ending dates for the recurring contribution.
