A Malaysian-inspired sangeet festival is back. The Bhai Mardana Sangeet Festival 2015 will be held in Penang in July and in Kuala Lumpur in August.
For the first, the festival is being held out of the Klang Valley. The festival will kick-off with a half-day programme at Gurdwara Sahib Butterworth in Penang on July 11.
It will be followed with a two-day event at Gurdwara Sahib Ampang in Ulu Klang, Kuala Lumpur, on Aug 22-23.
The programme is organised by the youth group Oh My Guru (OMG) and the Sikh Naujawan Sabha Malaysia (SNSM).
The local music festival, aimed to celebrate the rich world of Sikh rhythm and promote local kirtan groups, began four years ago.
Last year, the main draw was QiRattan, a husband-wife kirtan team from the United Kingdom. [See report here].
