Student Amreet Kaur was crowned Miss Earth Malaysia Penang in a beauty pageant on the island state on 1 Aug.
Amreet, 19, bags a modelling and brand ambassador contract worth RM3,000 at the event held at the Queensbay Mall in Penang.
Amreet was surprised to have won as she was more into casual dressing and comfortable in T-shirt and jeans rather than in formal dressing, according to The Star.
“I have never taken part in any beauty contest before. This is my first. It was my mother who encouraged me to give it a try. Mum said it was a once in a lifetime oppurtunity. After this, I will be heading to Russia to further my medical studies,” the newspaper quoted her.
Amreet and the other two top winners will represent Penang for the Miss Earth Malaysia 2015 final to be held on Aug 10 in Ipoh.
Participants had to introduce themselves in either Chinese or English while in traditional Nyonya attire, then change their outfits to leisure wear, casual wear and cocktail wear
The pageant was organised by Velvet Signature Sdn Bhd and Starz Gallery Management.
