Another major gurdwara in Malaysia has adopted the ‘Ek Granth, Ek Panth, Ek Maryada’ slogan as part of their leadership ethos.

Gurdwara Sahib Seremban (GSS) becomes the second gurdwara to adopt the slogan championed by the Malaysian Gurdwaras Council (MGC) for its Sikhi parchaar activities.

“We are all excited to move forward with this calling,” GSS committee president Mulkeeth Singh told Asia Samachar at the sidelines of the ‘Leadership of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji: Seremban Seminar’ held in Sri Sendayan, Seremban, yesterday (26 Nov 2016).

At the end of the conference, attended by some 150 participants including a majority of the GSS committee members, Mulkeeth moved the following resolution: “This gathering of Sikhs in Seremban on 26th November 2016 reaffirms that out ultimate guide is Shabad Guru as embodied Sri Guru Granth Sahib. This gathering also revolves t be guided by Ek Granth, Ek Panth, Ek Maryada.”

On 13 Nov 2016, Gurdwara Sahib Klang (GSK) launched the slogan ’Ek Granth, Ek Paanth, Ek Maryada’ at a function specially called for that purpose, with GSK committee president Jasbir Singh then saying he was happy to see the centrality of the ‘Ek’ principle being the foundational concept of Sikhi.

The slogan was inspired by the ‘One Granth, One Panth’ slogan first floated by the World Sikh Council (WSC), which has representatives from 20 countries, including Malaysia.

At its annual meeting in March 2016 in Paris, France, the WSC called on Sikh organisations to unite under the ‘One Granth One Panth’ banner to promote the teachings of the Guru Granth Sahib.

The Seremban-leg of the seminar is a sideline event following the 3rd Conference on the Leadership of Guru Granth Sahib Ji on 23 Oct 2016 in Petaling Jaya. It was followed by the ‘Leadership of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Conference: Ipoh Seminar’ on 5 Nov.

The one-day seminar is organised by the Coalition of Malaysian Sikh Organisations (CMSO). Its media partners were Asia Samachar, Sikhi Lehar Malaysia and Sikhi Vichaar Forum.

  1. Malaysian Sikhs deserve mention for launching the Ek Panth, Ek Granth, Ek Maryada movement. On the Facebook, we notice there people unhappy with this movement. Why are they unhappy? The crux is to lardh loanaa (enjoin) Sikhs to the Guru Granth Sahib. Isn’t that a good thing? The Guru Granth Sahib has always been the focal point of the dhian of the Sikhs. So, why the huha? Well done, Sikhs of Malaysia.

  2. Gurfateh.
The Gurdwara Sahib Seremban has maintained its place in History. During the 1930-1945 more than one decade of world wide discussions on bringing together the Sikhs Diaspora and Sikhs in India, to hammer together a Unified Panth Parvanit Sikh Rehat Maryada and streamline the Panth under EK Granth, EK Panth, EK Maryada, SEREMBAN was one of the places which participated in that call for suggestions and thus earned a place of honour in History which it once again reiterated by being in the forefront of the EK Granth, EK Panth, EK Maryada once again after the passing of more than seven decades.
I noticed that the Sangat and Gurdwara Parbhandaks of Seremban have always led in Panthic matters. Seremban is one of the Gurdwaras that has a special EDUCATION FUND to help the financially less advantaged but academically better students to fund their studies. Seremban is also the Birth Place of the Malaysian Sikh Education FUND (incidentally my own Higher education was funded by this Education Aid Fund in 1969-1972).
This is a matter to feel proud as most Gurdwaras only concentrate on buildings and building FUNDS as FD’s – year after year increasing Fixed Deposits while bright students, budding enterpreneurs among our community are disadvantaged due to lack of funds etc.
The Seminar on the Leadership of the AAd Sri Guru Granth sahib Ji into the 21st Century and the accompanying initiative of EK Granth, EK Panth and EK Maryada was held in such a conducive atmosphere, The excellent auditorium of The Matrix Global Schools with excellent facilities, added to the value of the Event so painstakingly put together by the hard working Team of the Gurdwara sahib Seremban.
MY Congratulations to all the attendees, the organisers and the sangat and Gurdwara Comittee of Seremban for a job well done. This huge success following upon the earlier ones in Gurdwara Sahib KLANG and IPOH Waddah Gurdwara sahib have reignited the fire in the sangat hearts to KNOW the GURU that for long has been kept under rumallahs and bowed to ritually. The Knowledge explosion is rocking and its a pleasure to watch the joy on the faces of the sangat at what a Great Leader is leading them into the 21st Century and how they can become worthy followers of this One and Only UNIQUE AAD sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
