Five EKTA TVET scholarships now open to Sikh students

Five scholarships, each valued at RM5,000, are now available to Sikh students pursuing technical and vocational education under the newly introduced EKTA TVET Scholarship programme.

The initiative by EKTA Club Kuala Lumpur & Selangor, supported by the Malaysian Sikh Youth Association (MYSA) and Asia Samachar, is aimed at helping Sikh youth build careers through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The scholarships are open to students who have already applied for a place at a public vocational college, including those seeking to pursue the Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM) and Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) after Form Three, or the Diploma Kemahiran Malaysia (DKM) after completing Form Five or SPM.

Each scholarship is valued at RM5,000 and is intended to help cover tuition fees for the duration of the course, subject to satisfactory performance.

Beyond financial assistance, scholarship recipients will also receive mentoring and counselling to support their academic and personal development, as well as opportunities to build leadership skills and participate in community activities.

EKTA also intends to provide entrepreneurship guidance for students interested in exploring business opportunities after obtaining their qualifications. Recipients will be encouraged to become TVET role models by sharing their experiences and inspiring other Sikh youth to consider vocational education.

Applications will be assessed on several factors, including financial need, academic effort and commitment, passion for TVET, leadership and community service, and the applicant’s personal statement.

TVET programmes focus on practical and industry-relevant skills that can lead directly to employment. They offer young people the opportunity to enter the workforce and begin earning earlier, while generally being more affordable than conventional university education.

The Malaysian government has also increasingly encouraged parents and students to view TVET not as a secondary choice, but as a viable pathway towards stable employment and rewarding careers amid growing demand for skilled workers.

The EKTA initiative reflects that shift by encouraging Sikh youth with an aptitude for practical learning and technical skills to pursue vocational qualifications and build sustainable careers.
