Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan will engage with the Malaysian Sikh diaspora at a special dialogue in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday (Sept 10).
The session, scheduled from 10am to 12.30pm at SSU Kelab Aman, will focus on contemporary Punjab, social development, education, heritage and culture, youth and women, diaspora relations and opportunities for greater engagement.
Sandhwan, 51, is an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) politician and two-term MLA for Kotkapura who has served as Speaker of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha since 2022.
He comes from a family with a notable political legacy: his grandfather, Jangir Singh, was the brother of former Indian President Giani Zail Singh, making Sandhwan Zail Singh’s grandnephew. An engineering graduate, Sandhwan entered grassroots politics as sarpanch of Sandhwan village before winning the Kotkapura assembly seat in 2017 and retaining it in 2022.
The event is coordinated by Dr. Balwant Singh Bains, a Kuala Lumpur-based physiotherapist and founder of Penang-Punjab Corridor programme.
