The Malaysian police on Oct 24 arrested an Indian national, said to be a Khalistan Tiger Force member, on suspicion of entering the country without valid travel documents.
In a statement today (Nov 6), the nation’s top cop said the 36 year old suspect was caught by the national police’s counter terrorism unit in an operation in Johor Bahru, Johor, the Malaysian state bordering Singapore.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the suspect, said to be holding a false Nepali pasport when caught, was handed over to the Indian authorities on Nov 5.
The suspect was believed to have been involved in the murders of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh in 1995 and Rashtriya Sikh Sangat president S. Rulda Singh in July 2009, as well as a number of bomb attacks in Punjab in April 2010, according to the statement.
Following the incidents, the suspect and Jagtar Singh Tara, a leader of the Khalistan Tiger Force, were believed to have fled to a few countries, including Nepal and Thailand, before entering Malaysia, said Khalid in the statement.
The statement added that the suspect was arrested under Section 6(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
