Gagandeep Singh has returned as president of SSU Kelab Aman after a keenly contested election that saw his team sweep all key positions in the Kuala Lumpur-based social and sports club.

Gagandeep, popularly known as Gagan, secured 286 votes to overcome a spirited challenge from relative newcomer Gordev Singh, who obtained 261 votes.

His team also won the contests for vice-president, secretary, treasurer, assistant secretary and sports chairman. Dr Balbir Singh was elected vice-president, Harnish Kaur secretary, Inderjit Singh treasurer, Harvinder Singh assistant secretary and Jagjit Singh sports chairman.

“I intend to deliver on the points listed in our manifesto,” Gagan told Asia Samachar in a telephone conversation.

The Team Gagan manifesto outlined seven priorities: better facilities and better utilisation, stronger club sustainability, more activities and connections, youth sports development for excellence, a review of the current burden on members, smart investment and realistic development, and a better member experience.

On facilities, the team pledged to maintain and upgrade existing amenities, introduce smarter and easier booking systems, and maximise the use of available resources.

The manifesto also spoke of creating more commercial opportunities and exploring new revenue streams, with the incoming committee promising to build a financially sustainable club without increasing the burden on members.

At the annual general meeting on June 28, Gagan takes over from Parvinder Singh Doal, who served two terms as president from 2022 to 2026. Gagan previously held the presidency from 2016 to 2018.
