Seasoned litigator Loveleen Ahuja has been appointed to the 8th Subcircuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Ann Collins-Dole.
Her appointment became effective on February 2, 2024, and will conclude December 2, 2024, following the November 2024 general election. Loveleen is running unopposed in the November election to fill the judgeship for a six-year term.
Loveleen is a first-generation daughter of immigrant parents. She was the first in her family to be born in the US and is proud to be the first one to practice law, according to her campaign website.
She has spent her entire career representing people who are marginalized by society — working to make sure their voices are heard and their rights are protected, it added.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts from St. Louis University and earned her Juris Doctor from the California Western School of Law.
Loveleen previously served in the Cook County Public Defender’s Office since 2005 and has been a homicide attorney since 2019, representing indigent defendants charged with murder. She previously served in the Felony Trial, Domestic Violence, First Municipal, and Child Protection Divisions of the Office and has litigated hundreds of juries, bench trials, and motions.
Loveleen is a member of the South Asian Bar Association, the Asian American Bar Association, and the Women’s Bar Association. She also serves on the Committee Against Anti-Semitism and Hate for the Decalogue Society.
Loveleen’s new appointment was announced by Chief Justice Mary Jane Theis and the Illinois Supreme Court.
