Dr Ranmeet Jassal is hoping to follow the footsteps of her mother and sister by clinching a beauty pageant title.

The 24-year old qualified medical doctor is one of the three Punjabi women who have made the cut as finalists for the Miss World Malaysia 2016 title.

The other two are students Amreet Sra and Shweta Sekhon.

Amreet, 20, had tasted victory earlier when she was crowned Miss Earth Malaysia Penang in August 2015 and went to compete in the finals in Ipoh. She had also represented Malaysia at the Miss Tourism Queen International 2015 in China.

Her spirit of adventure is beyond the catwalks. She has completed a 5km run in 40 minutes, took part in women’s indoor football and have successfully climbed Mount Bator, a live volcano in Bali, Indonesia.

Shweta, 19, who describes herself as a perfect emcee and host for school events and debating societies, wishes to make her single mother proud by bringing back the title.

Dr Ranmeet graduated from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in India. After a year of houseman training in India, she is now in Malaysia to start her medical practice as a house surgeon with the government, according to information available at the pageant Facebook page. Her sister is the current Miss Malaysia Universe while her mother won Mrs. Malaysia classic.

Sabahan Brynn Lovett was named Miss World Malaysia 2015. Winners of Miss World Malaysia will go on to the Miss World pageant.
