Malaysian accountants body appoints tax expert Dr. Veerinderjeet Singh as deputy president

Dr. Veerinderjeet Singh, a Malaysian tax specialist with more than 35 years of experience, has been elected as the deputy president of Malaysian Institute Of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA).

Country Managing Partner of Deloitte Malaysia Tan Theng Hooi was elected as president for the period 2017/2018.

MICPA has a Council of 30 elected members comprising prominent members of the accounting fraternity including several Managing Partners and Partners from some of the top accounting firms in the country.

In May, Dr. Veerinderjeet was also appointed as a director of Malaysian Rating Corporation Berhad (MARC), along with Toi See Jong who is the CEO of Tokio Marine Life Insurance Malaysia Bhd and the current president of the Life Insurance Association of Malaysia.

In 2015, Dr. Veerinderjeet along with audit expert Ranjit Singh and Peter Tang steered the public listing of Axcelasia Inc. on the Singapore Stock Exchange (SGX). Axcelasia, a Malaysian-based integrated professional services firm, had aimed to raise close to S$12 million from the initial public offering (IPO) to list on the SGX’s Catalist board.

Dr. Veerinderjeet’s career as a tax specialist spans over 35 years and includes roles as an Inland Revenue Officer, Tax Partner/Execu ative Director at Arthur Andersen and Ernst & Young in Malaysia, and Associate Professor in Taxation at the University of Malaya.

A noted authority on Malaysian taxation, he is a frequent speaker on the subject and has authored numerous publications, including books and articles in local and international tax, law and accounting journals.

He is a co-founder and Chairman of Axcelasia Taxand Sdn Bhd, a boutique tax advisory firm and a member of Taxand Global, in which he is also serves as a board member.

Dr. Veerinderjeet is also an independent director on the Board of the Bank of Nova Scotia Berhad and member of the Audit Committee of InvestKL.

He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Amsterdam-based International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation, a trustee of the Malaysian Tax Research Foundation, and a member of the Paris-based Tax Commission of the International Chamber of Commerce. He received a first class honours degree in accounting from University of Malaya and a doctorate from Universiti Putra Malaysia.
