Tenders have been called for the construction of a 4-storey gurdwara building to cater for some 500 Sikh families in Subang, Selangor.

Subang Sikh Association, Selangor (SSAS) has invited registered building contractors to tender for the construction of 4-storey Gurdwara Sahib Subang building in Ss13, Subang Maya.

Building contractors submitting their tenders  must be registered with the Kuala Lumpur-based Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and have the required experience and the financial capacity to undertake this project, the association said in a statement released via the email-based Malaysian Punjabi News.

“We’ve approvals are in hand to start the construction,” SSAS committee president Amrick Singh tells Asia Samachar.

The local authority, Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ), approved its building plans in November 2014, he added.

Subang Jaya is a vibrant Malaysian township located between Petaling Jaya, Puchong and Shah Alam.

SSAS, formally registered in 2002, was formed with two objectives: To promote the teachings of Sikhism to Sikhs in Subang, and to obtain a piece of land to build Gurdwara Sahib Subang.

Initial applications for a plot of land were made to the local authorities in 2003. In  January 2012, the Selangor state government had approved the allocation of a 10,000 sq ft land for the purposes of the gurdwara.

The laying of the gurdwara sahib’s foundation stone was held on Jan 4, 2015, after the completion of an akhand path, or the continuous reading of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib. On May 9, the piling for the building at a cost of RM148,000 was commenced.

“The piling work was separated from the main construction of the building to keep cost down,” said Amrick.

The target completion for the building is April 2017.

Those interested in the tender process are requested to contact SSAS committee president Amrick via WhatsApp or SMS at [+60125389061] or email to amricksinghrandhawa@yahoo.com.my.
