Record turnout expected for 10th Maspore Games

The MASPORE Games will celebrate their 10th edition in Seremban from Aug 13 to 15, marking another milestone for an event that began as a modest football tournament in Ipoh in 2014 and has since developed into a major Sikh multi-sport gathering.

Hosted by the N9 Sikhs Sports Club, this year’s games are expected to be organised on a larger scale, with organisers anticipating the highest participation in the event’s history.

MASPORE secretary Jasbir Singh Nannuan said the organising committee had worked to improve the facilities, sporting experience and programmes available to athletes, officials, families and supporters.

“We are expecting our largest participation to date, with improved facilities, enhanced sporting experiences and exciting programmes for athletes, officials, families and supporters,” he told Asia Samachar.

Jasbir invited members of the community to attend the Games and celebrate the milestone as “one united Sikh sporting community”.

Established to strengthen friendship, unity and camaraderie among Sikh communities in Malaysia and Singapore, MASPORE has expanded from a single-sport competition into a multi-sport festival.

Its programme now includes football, hockey, badminton, netball, volleyball, pickleball, bowling, darts, pool and futsal, alongside several other sporting disciplines.

The Games have been hosted in different Malaysian states over the years, bringing together athletes, officials, volunteers, families and supporters from across the region.

According to the organisers, more than 800 athletes and officials participated in the 2025 edition, placing MASPORE among the Sikh community’s most significant annual sporting events.

The organisers said the Games were intended to promote not only sporting excellence but also healthy living, youth development, friendship and community pride.

MASPORE has also developed into a platform for younger athletes to gain competitive experience, build relationships with participants from other clubs and become more involved in community activities.

Organisers said the 10th edition would honour the legacy of the inaugural Ipoh tournament while encouraging a new generation to strengthen the Sikh sporting community through participation, volunteerism and sportsmanship.
