Thirteen Sikh students who excelled in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM),  a national examination taken by fifth-year secondary school students, were recognised at the Perak state-level Vaisakhi function on Sunday.

The Perak Vaisakhi Open House, which was attended by the Perak Mentri Besar Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, also saw hampers distributed to some 80 orphanages.

The open house, led by Persatuan Pembangunan Insan Sikh Perak (PPIS), was various gurdwaras in the state taking part as well.

“Good to see so many ladies, including the SIkhMai, taking part in the event,” said  said Keshvinder Singh, chief coordinator of non-Muslim affairs at the Perak Chief Minister’s Office.

Among others, Sikh Naujawan Sabha Malaysia (Perak) opened a turban tying booth.
