Parti Punjabi Malaysia (PPM), a political party affiliated to the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition which is in power at the Federal level, yesterday donated RM3,500 to the Sikh family whose house was completely razed in a fire in Serdang, Selangor, on 15 November.
PPM president Gurjeet Singh Rhande handed a cheque to the family when his team visited the fire victims yesterday (26 Nov 2015).
The three families involved in the fire incident had earlier received some assistance and cash donations from other Sikh groups as well.
Gurjeet was recently in the news when his photo appeared on stage with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter’s recent maiden visit to Malaysia.
In July 2015, PPM donated RM10,000 to the family of Cashvinder Singh, a young sewadar from Tanjung Rambutan, Perak, who passed away last year.
In the same month, PPM also contributed RM3,000 to the Kuala Lumpur based United Sikhs Sports and Cultural Club.
Earlier, it contributed RM5,000 to the Punjabi Education Centre (PEC) of Ipoh for the development and teaching of Punjabi language in October 2014 and RM10,000 towards the Butterworth gurdwara building fund in May 2014.
