For Satinder Singh Sanghera, football has never been just a sport. It has been a lifelong connection to community, identity and the next generation of young players in Melbourne’s Punjabi circles.

Satinder’s family migrated to Australia in the late 1970s, and from a young age, the game became a defining part of his life, according to SBS Punjabi.

He began coaching in the 1990s, seeing it not only as a way to stay involved in football, but also as a platform to mentor and connect with young people. Over the years, he has helped nurture generations of players through his work with local clubs and the Australian Futsal Association.

Known widely as Sat, he is now focused on expanding opportunities for girls in football through his involvement with Singh Sabha Sports Club Melbourne.

He has also played an important role in helping football become the most participated sport at the Australian Sikh Games, reflecting the game’s growing appeal among Sikh and Punjabi communities across Australia.

Through decades of coaching, organising and community work, Sat’s contribution has gone beyond the pitch, helping football become a shared space for participation, belonging and youth development.
