CGIM elects governance veteran Dipa Kaur as president

The Chartered Governance Institute of Malaysia (CGIM) has elected veteran chartered secretary and governance professional Dipak Kaur, better known as Dipa, as its new president.

She succeeds Akbar Moidunny, who now serves as the immediate past president of the institute, formerly known as the Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (MAICSA).

Appointed deputy president in July 2024, Dipa has held several key leadership positions in CGIM since 2021. These include chairing the task force that developed the Corporate Governance Guide for Non-Listed Companies, published in 2023.

Professionally, Dipa is the company secretary of the Maxis Berhad group of companies, providing strategic governance and advisory support to the telecommunications group.

She brings over 30 years of extensive experience in corporate law and governance, regulatory compliance and company secretarial practice across both public listed and private companies.

Dipa is a Fellow and Chartered Governance Professional of CGI Malaysia. Her academic and professional qualifications include LLB (University of Leicester, UK), LLM (University of Malaya), Certified Diploma in Accounting and Finance (ACCA), Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Certificate in Sustainable Development (University of Sussex, UK), and Certificate of Legal Practice. She is a non-practising Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.

Her late parents, Sangat Singh and Upkar Kaur, were prominent members of the Sikh community in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur.

The CGIM council for the 2026/2027 term also includes vice-presidents Dr Nandita Choudhury and Associate Professor Noorbijan Abu Bakar, as well as newly elected members Tan Ai Ning and Dalvinderjit Kaur.

They join continuing council members Samantha Tai, Dr Mazlan Ahmad and Intan Nabilaa Idrus.

Dalvinderjit, who was co-opted onto the council in December 2025, currently chairs the institute’s investment and national disciplinary committees.

She is Group Head of Legal for Global Banking under Group Corporate and Legal Services, and has served as Regional Head of Legal for Maybank Investment Banking Group since 2013. Her regional responsibilities span more than 10 countries.
