EDITOR’S PICK: Blurred vision – Dashveenjit

Deshwin-1502-EditorsPickBlurred vision. That’s what most of us have.

I was lining up waiting for my turn to get my LRT token when a guy (seems to me like a foreigner) was having difficulty in getting his token. There was a long line of angry people behind him. He looked helpless but no one helped. I walked passed all (potong barisan) and helped him get a token to his journey. It helped the situation. He was relieved and grateful, and everyone went on, seemingly chasing for time.

No, I’m not blowing my own trumpet. What I’m trying to share here is that we all need a pair of humanity glasses. You see, we are playing blind at heart in ignoring those who are in need of assistance.

I have been taking the public transport since I was 14. I’ve been exposed to the world out there, witnessing the helpless ignored. We simply looked on. I, too, have been in situations where I needed help but was ignored.

Whoever you are or whatever you do, you breath the same air and live in the same world. Someday you will be in a situation where you would need help. The last thing you want is no one coming forward to assist. So, before we say that the world is a cruel place, ask ourselves: “Are we even being kind enough at first”?

I’m not asking you to pay the bills for others but slowing down your car to let the pedestrian cross the road or give up your seat in the subway to anyone would do just fine. [Adapted from her Facebook posting.] – ASIA SAMACHAR (17 Feb 2015)
