Malaysia’s Sports and Youth Minister Khairy Jamaluddin will be attending the Vaisakhi 4Km Fun Run and a Family Carnival on May 2 organised by Gurdwara Sahib Mainduab, one of the gurdwaras in Kuala Lumpur.
Deputy Minister of Federal Territory Senator Dr J. Loga Bala Mohan is also expected to show up at the event.
The event is jointly organised with Sikh Naujawan Sabha Malaysia and other gurdwaras in the Klang Valley.
The carnival and the race is open to all races. The run is a non-competitive in nature.
“We see many bhangra, giddha, etc, events for Vaisakhi. This is something different – a fun run and a family carnival,” chief organiser Jassmine Kaur told Asia Samachar in an interview earlier.
Jassmine, one of the two ladies in executive committee of the Gurdwara Sahib Main Doab, Pudu – the organisers of the event – is an event organiser by profession.
“I do events for corporates. We don’t have such events for Punjabi families. So, we thought, why not?” she says.
The other lady exco member at the gurdwara is Harcharan Kaur, another key member of the organising team, along with Ishvinder Singh. The event, from 7am to 1pm, will be held at Padang Merbok, Kuala Lumpur.
The 4KM Fun Run will kick-off with a bhangra-aerobics session. Registration fees for the run is RM20 per person for adults (16 years and above) and RM10 for children (15 and below).
Participants can go to marathon.com for online registration. The Race Kit Collection will take place at Padang Merbok (Car Park area) on 1 May 2015 from 12pm – 4pm.
