Ranjit Singh, a senior partner at Malaysian law firm Ranjit, Thomas & Kula, passed away on 22 Dec 2015. He was 77.
Among the active Sikh NGO volunteers, Ranjit is known as a generous donor as well as the boss for Malkith Singh, a former jathedar of Sikh Naujawan Sabha Malaysia (SNSM).
“I’ve been with him for 40 years. Just before leaving for the Samelan, I spent the whole day with him,” Malkith tells Asia Samachar.
Malkith was at at Khalsa Land in Kuala Kubu Bharu (KKB) for the Annual Grummet Parchaar Samelan, the SNSM’s annual signature camp, when he received the news of Ranjit passing away.
“He was not well. He had told his assistant not to call me as I was engaged at the Samelan,” he adds.
Ranjit had come to the SNSM aid earlier with an interest-free loan of some RM400,000 to settle the remaining sum to be paid for the RM1.7 million land in KKB purchased in 2002.
“The soft loan was a huge burden off our shoulders,” one member of the SNSM land committee tells Asia Samachar.
