A group from Gurdwara Sahib Taiping visited Sikh inmates at the Taiping Prison, the nation’s oldest modern prison complex, located in the state of Perak.
The team, led by Taiping gurdwara management committee (GMC) president Balraj Singh, brought Guru Ka Langgar for the 12 Sikh inmates at the prison on 13 April 2016.
“The idea came about when a ex-prison officer told me last year that there were some Amritdharis detained were having a tough time with the food,” Balraj tells Asia Samachar.
Formerly known as the Larut Prrison, the Taiping Prison was built in 1879, initially to imprison members of Ghee Hin and Hai San, two warring Chinese gangs at then then tin-mining rich Perak.
