A World Cup-themed educational resource co-created by Sikh educator Ravinderpal Singh Khalsa has gained international attention and is now set to be distributed to more than 2,000 schools across London.

Khalsa, a teacher at Hayes Park School, and fellow educator Michael Donaghy developed the activity pack after finding a shortage of World Cup-themed educational materials for primary school pupils.

The resource uses the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted by Mexico, Canada and the United States, as a platform to teach children about geography, cultures, mathematics, English and art. The tournament, which features 48 participating nations, runs from June 11 to July 19.

What began as a small project for their own classrooms quickly expanded after the materials were shared online. The BBC reported that teachers, community groups and parents have circulated the worksheets through social media and messaging platforms, leading to more than 5,000 downloads worldwide, according to a BBC report.

“The BBC came into my school yesterday to find out how we are using the World Cup to educate,” Ravi told Asia Samachar in a text message yesterday.

Khalsa told the BBC that the original intention had been to create only a few worksheets for their respective classes, but the response had exceeded all expectations. Donaghy, who illustrated the materials, said he was amazed that children and teachers around the world were using resources he created in his spare time.

The initiative has also received institutional support, with the Mayor of London’s Healthy Schools programme agreeing to distribute the pack free of charge to schools across the capital.

Hayes Park School head teacher Rebecca Broadhurst told the BBC that the resource helps pupils learn about different countries and cultures while encouraging a sense of inclusion and shared understanding among students.
