Tabla performer Jatinder Singh Bedi will join the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) in its maiden performance in Kuala Lumpur.
The SCO will be performing at Kuala Lumpur’s Dewan Filharmonik Petronas on 8 Dec as part of the Titian Budaya Singapore cultural season in Kuala Lumpur which celebrates 50 years of Singapore-Malaysia bilateral ties.
In Singapore, SCO will give a preview of the concert, entitled Cross Cultural Extravaganza, on 28 Nov 2015 at the SCO Concert Hall.
Jatinder, the son of the late Gandharwa Award winner raagi Amrik Singh Bedi of Gwalior Gharana, began tabla training at the age of four, according to a profile on his Facebook page.
In later years, he had the opportunity to study under the guidance of various renowned teachers in the tradition of Guru Shisha Parampara. He also acquired a diploma in tabla from the Central Sangeet School of Delhi, affiliated to the Sangeet Samiti of Allahabad, it adds.
In Singapore, Jatinder has been performing actively for the past 16 years, while training students at National University of Singapore (NUS).
The Dec 8, SCO will be led by its music director Tsung Yeh. It will feature the winner of the first season of Singapore Idol Taufik Batisah, jazz pianist Jeremy Monteiro, Tok Dalang Eyo Hock Seng and wayang kulit group Kumpulan Sri Campuran.
