His Excellency Mr. Narendra Modi, Honourable Prime Minister of India

His Excellency Mr. Parkash Singh Badal, Honourable Chief Minister of Punjab

We, the Sikh Societies and Organisations in Malaysia, write to express our concerns following the loss of lives and use of lethal force by the authorities to manage the peaceful protest in Punjab, India. As one voice representing Malaysian based Sikh Organizations, we are deeply troubled by these events and the violence which is escalating in Punjab and across India.

There have been continuous reports of the desecration of The Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji across Punjab which have hurt Sikh sentiments and caused deep grievance among Sikhs worldwide. The desecration, together with the inaction of the Indian Government and Punjab state authorities, have led to thousands of Sikhs and non-Sikhs protesting peacefully across Punjab and India.

The Sikhs of Malaysia, therefore, strongly urge the Indian Government and Punjab state authorities to take action against the perpetrators of these atrocities and demand that the safety and freedom of the Sikh people to practise their religion be preserved.

The unreasonable and unnecessary use of lethal force by Indian authorities to disperse these legitimate protesters has also resulted in several deaths and serious injuries, which in turn has increased tensions across Punjab and India.  We implore you, in particular, to stop the use of force (lethal or otherwise) against your own citizens and defend their legitimate right to protest peacefully. Further, we urge you to direct the authorities to take immediate action to arrest and bring to justice not only those responsible for the persistent religious provocation across Punjab but also those members of the Indian forces responsible for the deaths and injuries of the protesters.

Additionally, due to these atrocities against the Sikh Gurdwaras, the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and the Sikhs, we demand the Indian Government provide adequate protection to the Sikhs and take action to curb these attacks against them. Further, the Indian Government needs to recognise Sikhism as an independent world religion and to accept that Sikhism is a distinct and separate religion in the Indian legal system, in order to end the on-going and continuous attacks against the Sikhs.

In conclusion, we would like to reiterate that we condemn the Punjab police brutality and inhumane actions towards the peaceful and legitimate gatherings. We firmly denounce all the human rights violations including the killings and torture of Sikhs happening in Punjab currently. Finally, we seek the assurance of the authorities that there will be no further use of lethal force and that the democratic and human rights of those holding peaceful protests will be protected.

  1. I have said before, handing memorandoms to governments that do uphold good principles of real democracy is certainly helpful and works in the interests of the citizenary. But India is notoriously known to trample upon the rights of minorities like the dalits, nagas, etc.The issue of Sikh minority reigns most promiment, as this is a very vocal and proud community that refuses to be beaten since it’s inception.

In 1947, a new chapter began, with so called freedom,to the sub continent, saw the open evaporation of Sikh human rights, ranging from language to treatment and identity. It cost Sikhs dearly, further lost of land, and waters to get a state where “Punjabi langauge would be supreme”; sadly that has still not materialised to this day.Waters have been lost, Id is being eroded, places of worship were desecrated continuolly, until it reached the epidemics of 1984.

To this day, the Sikh Genocide goes unrepented and un punished, in india, despite millions of voices speaking out against it.The murderous goons and culprits walk the streets freely!A token “punishment” was handed to about 7 people, and Sikhs were advised to “forget” 1984.However from time to time, the fanatical wings of hinduvta remind Sikhs about 1984!

Seeing, the Sikh minority refused to surrender, and assimilate into the hindu boa-constrictor, various plans have been hatched by some organisations like RSS, to eradicate the Sikh identity and officially ensure the Sikhs are no longer distinguishable from the hindu.

Bollywood, hindinization of Punjabi language, customs of the Punjab with hinud rituals like dusehrra , lohrri etc are all part of the greater hinduvta dream.

Denying waters to the Sikh farmers, weaken the financial capacity and development of the Sikhs, limit the recruitment to senior positions, cause upheavel to successful Sikhs farmers in the Teraii region,UP, Gujerat, restrict Sikhs from buying further lands in Rajasthan , Himacha is another part of the plan.

However, the greater part is the supporting of deras that break away the Sikh mind from the Guru Granth sahib, and lead them to believe in hindu mythological , various gods, through books, that are NOT on the same level like Guru GRANTH SAHIB.This book of dubious origins is sat parallel to the Guru Granth sahib, and Sikhs are asked to pay obeiusence after the Guru Granth is all part of the greater Hinduvta dream plan. Many Sikhs, who have read neither the Guru ji or other so called guru books , fall for these scams and get mislead away from Guru Granth sahib.Once the gigantic respect, emotional ties with Guru Granth sahib are broken, the end of Sikhi will be almost complete.

Thus, now come a flurry of incidents that ‘abuse ‘the Guru Granth sahib.Although as Sikhs we forget that God is omnipresent, unborn and yet to be born, timeless…..and thus thinking logically…can never be abused, by any inferior man.

But having lived in a spirally state of confusion, we have come believe God can be abused. The words of the revealed universal message of the Gurus can be abused, it can be hurt, and it can be descreated! But that is a different subject all together.

Now let us look who are these people causing these issues ?Most have blamed a deranged m,an with grandoise mentality, ram rahim, and his followers- as he had tried to imitate Guru Gobind Singh ji, the 10th master. The recent so called forgiving him was all part of a plan by Badal to garner his vote bank!

Interestingly, two out of the five piare who took part in the so called hukamnama are from two takhats, who do NOT even follow the centrally agreed Sikh maryada-law!Over the years, these two takhats have been involved many times in making decisions of Sikhs, when they themselves do not adhere to the central Sikh rule!If the law was truly respected among Sikhs, no matter what takhats,if they do not follow the central Sikhs maryada, they should NEVER have been party to any decision making at the Akal Takhat!

This is another separate issues that needs to be thought out!

Then a set of panj piare declared that the jatherdar acted unlawfully. They got suspended, and reinstated.Sikhs need to be careful, that we do not go down the line, where every now and then panj piare can arise and declare the last five wrong!

Others believe these are ordinary miscreants from the RSS, out to cause pain to the Sikhs mind, and destable the Punjab; for perhaps a repeat of 1984.

Some are openly blaming the current CM and his family and the politics he has created.I do not think, they are , but they certainly have failed to run the law order in the state and allowed these issues to get out of hand, as they have no interest in the welfare of the state and people, but their own, self interests.

He has allowed the SGPC to become as if his own limited company and encouraged corruption and dirty politics into the Akal Takhat and SGPC.

Interestingly, he has not only been at it in the last few years but for over 20 years, yet each time the party he leads is voted back into power…..and like Mr Najib –the pinnacle has been reached- and all one sees is problems and messy path ahead- for Sikh religion, institutions etc.

There are a number of other groups that may have caused these incidents -like the Nirankaris, or the Ravidasias, whose Guru was shot dead in Vienna a few ago.A strong element of them wants to break away from Sikh religion-although another part wishes to keep linked to the greater Sikh panth!

Who ever, it is, these incidents are seriously planned, deliberate and very well conducted. These are no accidents.

It has been alledged certain culprits have been arrested. It has also been claimed very authorative Sikhs and organisations that the people arrested, and not the real culprits but being made scapegoats. These are Sikhs who are amritdhari.Badal is being blamed to be trying to manipulate, and misguide the angry Sikhs, by putting the blame game back upon Sikhs.

Sikhs in Hong Kong, Malaysia and Fiji ought to be congratulated, as they have carried the message of the hurt very calmly and orderly, even if the memorandom may not mean much to the Indian authorities.

Sadly, the largest Sikh population outside India , a close to 800,000 in the United Kingdom let down their brothers, by deliberately clashing with police and displaying goonda gardi! No streets in London are blocked during any demonstrations-the police can bee seen repeatedly requesting people to get on the side walks–but unfortunately. the Sikhs in London displayed the same goonda gardi, their brethren in Punjab were complaining about!

Now, the blame game by the young fanatical Sikhs in United Kingdom is laid on the police, the “disguised non Sikhs”, any body, but themselves. They lost the sympathy of the very people, they trying tell about their misfortunes.sad.
