Indian professional golfer Jeev Milkha Singh will captain the Asia team when they play against Europe in the EurAsia Cup golf in Kuala Lumpur in January 2016.
Jeev Milkha, who was born in Chandigarh, is the son of the legendary Indian Olympic athlete Milkha Singh, whose life was captured in the film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. His mother Nirmal Kaur was former captain of the Indian women’s volleyball team.
“I am very positive about our chances. We have some exceptional talent and @EurAsiaCupGolf will be a great platform to showcase them,” he said in a tweet today.
His counterpart at the European team will be Darrwen Clarke.
EurAsia Cup, with DRB-Hicom Bhd as its main sponsor, will be held at Glenmarie Golf and Country Club between 15-17 January 2016.
In his speech, Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) chairman Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid said he hoped Jeev Milka, as the captain, will pick a Malaysian golfer for the Asia team.
“We have three strong contenders,” he said.
In a separate tweet, Jeev Milka said: “Team Asia for 2016 #EurAsiaCup: x4 from Order of Merit, x4 from world rankings and x4 picked by captain”.
The press conference was also attended by Asian Tour chairman Kyi Hla Han, European Tour deputy director of international policy Ben Cowen and DRB-Hicom COO for property and services Mohamed Razeek Md Hussain.
